Friends of the Earth Middle East - plucking hope from the mouth of despair

Unlike Greenpeace, Friends of the Earth tend to avoid matters of war and peace. All except Friends of the Earth Middle East, who do great work getting Israeli and Palestinian communities to work together on water related environmental projects. They have been quietly getting on with co-operative peacemaking projects. Read about it here.

There is a role for the European Parliament. The EU should send kit for water harvesting from roofs to IsraelPalestine. Unfortunately this idea is blocked by political policy wonks in the European Parliament who respond by moaning "That would never happen, the Israelis are really bad people, they would kill everyone who worked on the project".

Maybe we should find time to write to MEP hopefuls to ask if they will back the scheme.
